I don't know if the diet that was prescribed for you is working, but I have PCOS and am insulin resistant and regular diets, no matter how "balanced" and "nutritious" they are, do NOT work for me. I have tried EVERYTHING!! The only diet that I would recommend to someone with our disease is the Dr. Atkins diet, or a diet very similar such as the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet. I also try to walk for at least a 1/2 hour every day. If you haven't tried low carb diets, and your current diet isn't working, please give it a shot. You have to be strict on yourself, and it's somewhat difficult, but IT WORKS!!! About the hair problems, NAD's (hair removal gel on infomercials) is great, but I also recommend laser hair removal for a more costly, yet permanant removal. p.s. if you go on the atkins diet, take vitamins, and drink as much water as possible.
