Re: PCOS in collegeFrom: Aliza (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 13 Aug 2001 17:40:22 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Cathy, I am a recent college graduate (21) and was diagnosed with PCOS as a senior in college. Believe it or not, the best thing for me was seeing a great endocronologist, and using a low carb/low sugar diet, high in fiber. Basically, I stopped eating bread! A sample diet includes: Breakfast - bowl of a high fiber cereal (Kashi or All Bran) with skim milk. Snack - celery sticks. Lunch - Salad (lots of lettuce, fat free/sugar free salad dressing and a protien (turkey/chicken/tofu burger). Dinner - Another large salad with fat free/sugar free dressing, a high protein, and another vegetable. When I have the urger for sweets I eat the fat free/sugar free ice pops or glace frozen yogurt (yogurt & such). Also, their are a bunch of low carb products that have little to no sugar, over the internet. Important***, avoid products with ephedra (they speed up the heart). Good Luck
