A high protein, moderate carb, low fat diet is a winner as long as you have a healthy liver and kidneys. Protein contains the same amount of calories weight for weight as carbs, but is metabolically more 'expensive' than carbs for the body to turn into fat. Therefore carbs are less fattening. Protein is also more effective at suppressing appetite than carbs and less disturbing to blood sugar control. Hope that makes sense! Dr Fred
