I think it's great you're accessing resources to help support your friend! I think you're headed in the right direction. I was fortunate enough to have a husband who did some research and in turn he's become very supportive and understanding about this part of my life. He works out with me, never says, "hey lets go to McDonalds", understands my mood swings and continues to think I'm the beautiful princess he fell in love with. Like the previous reply to your message, there are medications that have proven successful for a lot of women that get to the root of the problem. There are also medications and remedies that mask or treat the outside symptoms of PCOS. I believe that most everyone here would agree that routine exercise (at least 30 min., 5-6 times/week), a low carb diet and possible medication like metformin or actos, would be the best thing for someone recently diagnosed with PCOS. I'm not a doctor, but these are things that have been suggested to me and I've had quite a bit of success. So, good luck and first and foremost, be supportive, encouraging and most of all a good friend!! -Brandi
