Re: Acne has reduced....facial hair gone....weight coming down....BUT MALE PATTERN HAIR LOSS WORSENINGFrom: Joanna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 13 Jul 2001 18:25:07 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I don't know about your going off spironolactone is your balding is getting worse, especially given the fact that your doctor even says he is going on a gut feeling. But then again...maybe you are having a bad reaction to it? I wish I could give you advice. The other thing is, your prescription is not really that strong. I am not taking it right now, but my prescription is 200 mg per day. Maybe your prescription needs to be strengthened? Either way, read this: "Hair Loss (Alopecia) Hair loss can either be diffuse, with no effect on the hairline. Although it is rare, some women may also have "receding hairline" pattern balding. The most common treatments for hair loss are Minoxidil, Proscar, Spironolactone, and hair transplants. Hair transplants are not a good option, however, in cases where the hair loss is diffuse (i.e., distributed throughout the head, rather than concentrated in a specific location of the scalp)." Source: http://www.inciid.org/pcos/hirsutism.html It clearly states that Spironolactone is used to treat hair loss. Obviously as a woman also balding, I can really appreciate your concerns. Good luck, and keep us posted!
