Heather: <Big hug for you!> PCOS is not a sentence to infertility, and the fact that you've been diagnosed early can help you preserve your fertility and your health. Yes, it is possible for you to conceive without medication, although you may need to take Clomid or some other egg-stimulating type of drug. The best suggestions I can give you are to go on a carb-controlled (not low-carb) eating plan, like the Schwarzbein Principal (which is very balanced), the Zone or the Carbohydrate Addict's Lifespan Plan, and to exercise for an hour a day. You may need to work up to the hour a day exercise, and actually you only need to do it 5 to 6 times a week, not every day. But you'll feel better, it's a great stress reliever, and it will definitely help your insulin action, as will the carb-controlled eating plan. Just a personal note, I was diagnosed with PCOS at the age of 28 after an exploratory laparoscopy showed my very PCOS ovaries, complete with white theca and the "string of pearls" from egg follicles. I was able to conceive the first time I took 50 mg. of Clomid when I was 30 (and weighed 295) and then had secondary infertility when I tried to conceive my second child. I was eventually able to coneive after an ovarian drilling and the help of 50 mg. of Clomid (I weighed 325 at the time). So there is hope for you, especially since you are not terribly obese. Obesity can be a major cause of infertility becuase of the affect of the estrogen in the fat cells has on insulin and other hormones. Best wishes, Donna in Utah Heather wrote:
