Re: Your Opinion?From: Renee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 03 Jul 2001 22:54:59 -0700
Meridia and Metformin are very different drugs, for very different uses. Meridia, from what I understand, is purely a diet drug (appetite suppressant?). Metformin is an insulin sensitizer. It helps your body utilize the insulin you make better. The upside is that it also helps many PCOS symptoms, through the control of the insulin. The food can get boring. I complain all the time. Everyone's tolerance is different. Mine is very low. Any fruit sets me out of whack. But, experiment and see what your body can handle. Go for the low-glycemic index foods first-- Those that take a long time to absorb into your body. Many books have explanations of this and tables (the Zone books, hypoglycemia books, sugar-busters, etc.). Good luck. It takes a lot of work, but it is definitely worth it. Renee
