Maggie,

Have you looked into CLA (conjugated lineolic acid) as a supplement? There is some evidence that it helps with osteoporosis as well as other benefits.

After reading about it on one of the PCOS boards, I looked into it and decided to try it since there are really no known bad side effects. It is found in meat, especially red meat, and dairy products.

The truly amazing thing I found was an almost instant change in my skin and energy level. I have had more comments this past week since beginning it, so it is not my imagination that I look better.

The other great thing was a boost in weightloss. I have been plateaued. I lost 12 pounds the first month on Met, then it slowed to a crawl. This past week, I have been dropping a half pound per day, and my body shape is improving. I am showing a definite melting of my plump cheeks and jowl-line as well as thighs and waistline. My total loss since starting on Met April 20 is 19 pounds. This past week the only thing I have done differently is take the CLA after meals. I take the Met during my meals twice a day. I am only on 1000mg of Met per day. I have elevated liver enzymes, so cannot increase Met until more tests are complete.

I am taking Tonalin Brand CLA, 3.4 grams per day as was used in most of the studies. If you do a search on the net, you will find many sites with information. It is also discussed on the Thyroid boards and Diebetes boards.

The cost is relatively low - I bought 90 1000mg gelcaps for $21 and have seen it for less on the net. There are also 300mg versions available, but at a higher cost per gram. The studies found that 3.4 was the optimal level which showed results, with a Norwegian study going as high as 6 grams per day.

Look into this as a possibility. My doctor is very pleased with the results I am seeing with this combination of Met and CLA. I also take multi-vitamins and liquid calcium/magnesium softgels. Have you tried this form of calcium yet? I use the Eternal Health brand which I order on the internet.

Anyway, take a look. Perhaps it will be useful.
