Re: I need some advice about PCOSFrom: Jasmin (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 25 Jun 2001 11:55:22 -0500 (CDT)
-----Yep, the sugar and carb cravings go along with messed up insulin levels. What happens if you eat something highly processed or with sugar in it is that it causes your blood sugar to spike, so a lot of insulin is produced(even more if you have pcos and are insulin resistant) and then causes the blood sugar to drop dramatically. When your blood sugar drops that fast, your brain Needs a quick fix, so your body craves sugar and processed carbs. Its a horrible vicious cycle. But most people find that if they can get past the first couple days of not eating sugar or highly processed carbs like pasta, bread, etc. the sugar and carb cravings go away, and you have much more energy. Check out the Zone or The Insulin Resistance Diet for tips on how to manage your diet so that the insulin is under control, but you still get to eat some carbs. good luck
