Virgina, Your doc. isn't quite right or not up on the research that has come out in the last 3 yrs or so. New findings are that PCOS is caused by or strongly linked to insulin resistance, so prescribing insulin sensitizing drugs is the closest thing doctors can do to get to the heart of the problem. Here is an intersting article on the subject from January 2000: http://www.obgyn.net/displaytranscript.asp?page=/avtranscripts/verhoeven_nestler (Metformin/glucophage is an insulin sensitizer.) If you don't treat the insulin resistance, you put yourself at greater risk for other problems later. On the other hand, if your lab work strongly makes your doc. conclude that you aren't insulin resistant, then you are in the minority of PCOS patients. By the way, I'm not overweight and I don't have blood clots, but I am on metformin. It has helped me regulate my hormones. (You don't have to have all the symptoms to have this syndrome.) Also, I recommend Dr. Thatcher's book _PCOS, The Hidden Epidemic_. Have you read it? ~Alta
