To Virginia re: Serotonin & CarbsFrom: stedgar (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 21 Jun 2001 23:20:35 -0700
Hi Virginia :-) ~~Also that the body craves carbs when the serotin levels are low - are serotin levels connected to PCOS in any way?~~ In "The Schwarzbein Principle" Dr. Schwarzbein (Endo) explains that carb binges induce your brain to produce Serotonin; hence most 'Comfort foods' are carb's. And because we aren't eating enough protein, natural fats and natural cholesterol (hormonal building blocks), our bodies cannot replace the Serotonin naturally; hence depletion and depression. Blood sugar and insulin imbalances also lead to other hormones over-compensating to find a balance, and that leads to Serotonin shortages, Thyroid & Adrenal strain... Hope that helps :-) Lux et umbra vicissim, sed semper amor. (Light and shadow by turn, but always love.) 'Content yourself to be a Lover of Wisdom, a Seeker of Truth.'
