Re: please helpFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 18 Jun 2001 15:32:18 -0400
Hi! The blood clot thing definitely sucks--impacting what meds we can use to treat the PCOS as well as what foods we can eat (no salad or soy--foods most people go to when trying to eat low-carb). I'm very new to all this, but from what I've read here and from what my endo has told me, the met/glucophage is definitely NOT just for women trying to become pregnant. It is the treatment most women with PCOS are on--not just those who are trying to start a family or whatever. I am absolutely definitely not wanting a baby right now, and my endo is probably going to put me on glucophage to treat the PCOS. I believe clomid is just for those women trying to become pregnant, so your doctor was right about that one. Oh, the whole hysterectomy thing is SOOOO not a good idea! PCOS is most definitely NOT a problem of the reproductive system. Your uterus and ovaries are not to blame for all this! PCOS is an endocrine disorder. You can go through all the trauma and awfulness of a hysterectomy and STILL HAVE PCOS! Please please please don't go the hysterectomy route without consulting with an endo or someone who is knowledgable about PCOS. Its really not a solution at all and will just cause you more grief on down the road (automatic menopause, no children, etc.). I'm in the same boat as you (blood clots, so I can't take BCPs anymore), and my endo is recommending glucophage and possibly aldactone (she's gonna check to see if the aldactone is safe for those of us on coumadin). Please let me know how you're doing and please take good care of yourself. Much love
