Insulin Resistance DietFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 8 Jun 2001 16:29:46 -0500 (CDT)
Hello! I was just recently diagnosed with PCOS after many visits to 3 different doctors. I was originally misdiagnosed with Hypothyroidism and put on Synthroid for 2 months. After going from feeling bad to feeling horrendous - I finally found a doctor that cared and did tests and diagnosed me with PCOS. I go in next week to talk about treatment options. I would love to hear what has worked the best for everyone. I just bought a "diet" book which seems like it would help with losing weight. It is called "The Insulin-Resistance Diet" by Cheryle Hart M.D. and Mary Kay Grossman, R.D. I've read through it and am very excited to try it. I have not had a period in 8 months and during that time have gained close to 40 pounds!! I've read through many postings and read that many girls are wondering if their medication is causing them to lose their hair more rapidly. Well, I haven't had any medicine and have noticed a significant loss in hair on my scalp. My personal experience is that the more weight I gain, the more noticeable my PCOS symptoms unfortunately become. One personal success is finding a moisturizer which has SIGNIFICANTLY reduced my acne. It hasn't disappeared but I feel like it is much more under control now. (L'Oreal Plenitude Futur-e moisturizer)
