Re: Denise :Nelwly DiagnosisedFrom: Melissa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 6 Jun 2001 14:04:15 -0500 (CDT)
Denise, I too am 26, I was identified as having PCOS really about 2 years ago but I'm just starting to tackle the effect in the last month or so. I've found that this stuff is very individual. I was really overweight when I began my 3rd year of college, around the 280 or so mark. Back then I used good old fashioned excerise and I ate low fat, completely opposite of what people with what we have are supposed to have success with. I lost 100lbs over the course of 3 years. In the 7mo before my wedding I did the low carb thing and continued to excercise. I lost another 20-30lbs. I have since gained back those last 20-30 lbs in the last year and a half. I can't do the low carb thing, I like my bread too much, I don't have the will power to stick to it anymore. My doctor just proscribed glucophage yesterday to see if it will help. It seems no matter how little or what kind(carbs, no carbs, fat, no fat) I can't take this weight off and I can't stop gaining it. I seem to be holding steady right now, but I'm not leaving anything to chance. I REFUSE TO GET AS BIG AS I WAS BEFORE!!!! I'm trying to keep up the excercising but as far as how is the best way to eat I think, in my opinion, it's all a matter of trial and error. What works for some doesn't work at all. I've seen some people on here saying Weight Watchers works for them, which is contrary to what is believed to work for people with PCOS. I believe that the staying active is essential no matter what kind of meals you decide to go with. I just feel 100% better when I get done working out, even if I hurt a little. When I began my program 5 years ago I started out easy. I rode the airdyne(excercise bike) for about 20 minutes and gradually worked myself harder and went a little longer and I did weights. I ended up running a mile 6 days a week. Can't handle that anymore, my joints and lungs are too bad. : ) I'm really excited to see if this glucophage works!! Would you be interested in being gluc-buddies!!??!!?? I could use someone to help keep me on track and honest with myself. My husband is great and he tries but be have two very different metabolisms and he just keeps telling me he loves me the way I am, but what it comes down to is I don't love me this way. I want to feel good about myself again!! What do you say??? I'd love to have someone who's going through the same stuff I am. We can compare sideffects(hear they can be pretty yucky). Let me know!! Feel free to email me, I check it at least once a day!! Melissa :) At Tue, 5 Jun 2001, Denise wrote: > >I am 26 years old and I am newly diagnosis w/ PCOS.
