As you have been prescribed glucophage this means you have insulin resistance, which I am sure you know. If you try to lose weight the conventional way a la "WeightWatchers" you will not be successful. As these are the conditioned diets which are rich in simple carbohydrates which cause a spike in blood sugar levels and high insulin levels. Insulin resistance is an excess of insulin in the blood. Eventually our muscles become complacent (if you like) to insulin and "resist" it. Our bodies produce more and more insulin in an effort to get a response. This makes us tired and hungary constantly, as our bodies are not converting our food into energy, and then insulin lays it down as fat. At this stage the high insulin levels in our blood interupt our normal female hormone cycle which is controlled by our pitutary gland (in the brain) and in short - stop our ovaries from receiving the right chemical commands which instruct them to produce and release eggs. After this has happened for some time the ovaries become cystic. Which is where both you and I find ourselves. Many women with PCOS and IR are on low carb - high protein diets. Two good books to read are Sugar Busters and Atkins diet revolution. Both completely understand the effect sugar has on some people. I have a diet which is a mixture of the two. I don't eat anything white or refined. So no sugar (under any circumstances), no potatoes, no white bread, no white pasta, no white rice. But I eat brown rice and wholegrain bread and brown rice. I live on Oatmeal, meat, poulty, cheese, eggs, salad, some fruit (not banannas or grapes, fresh vegetables, and use olive oil for everything. I have lost about 16 pounds. Hope this helps!
