Re: I need more info pleaseFrom: michelle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 25 May 2001 02:03:16 -0500 (CDT)
I have had pcos symptoms since puberty at age 13. I also am anovulatory (absence of periods), hypothyroid, over 100 pounds overweight, and over 35 years old. I tried for ten years to get pregnant. During that time I used Clomid (up to 250 mg) and Pergonal (up to 225 IU), followed by HCG to induce ovulation without success. Four years ago,I started on large doses of Fertinex (can't remember the dosage) and was able to ovulate and get pregnant, not once but twice! I would recommend (if you don't have one already) getting a really good reproductive endocrinologist. I went through many obs. and reproductive endocrinologists until I found one who was the right match for me. Also make sure you have an excellent ob. because the pregnancies of pcos women tend to be higher risk (greater number of miscarriages, potential for endocrine problems like gestational diabetes) and any fertility treatments to induce ovulation can result in multiples. My first pregnancy included just about every complication one could have but I did give birth to a healthy baby thanks to excellent medical care and some divine intervention. My second pregnancy was uncomplicated and resulted in another healthy baby. My children were conceived on my 16th, and 17th rounds of fertility treatments so hang in there, it can take time to get things right. Good luck!
