Dear Kiwi,
I was also craving carbs all the time before the dietician put me on a
low-carb, "diabetic" diet. The one thing that I think most has helped
is eating protein at almost every meal. I almost never used to eat
protein at breakfast. I used to pile on the carbs until I was full, but
would be hungry soon after. Now, I eat soy "meat" or an egg for
breakfast, and I get more satisfied for a longer period of time. I
still have occasional carb cravings, but the number and intensity have
decreased dramatically. I think that the more carbs you eat, the more
you want, and vice versa. Another thing that has helped a lot, was I
used to get most of my vitamins from juice and fruit. Now I get most
from vegetables, which are much lower in carbs. I don't drink juice,
and I used to guzzle it.
Don't worry Kiwi, you are not crazy! I have heard of anti-depressants
being used to treat lots of things other than depression, including for
people with problems with food. These range from people who have eating
disorders to people who have brain chemistry that doesn't tell them when
they are full or doesn't react right to food. It's also used to treat
PMS, certain sleep disorders, fibromyalgia, obsessive-compulsive
disorder and numerous other things.
I hope you get your body to a healthier state soon! Your bod seems
totally beaten up from your teenage health problems, it can only get
better!
