Welcome Karla,

Most of us here will suggest you follow a low carbohydrate type diet. A few of these include The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet, Atkins diet, Sugar Busters, the Zone diet, Swartzwiedian (sp) Principle, and the Low Glycemic Index. You might also wish to consider Weight watcher's new point system diet, only modify your carbs to those found on the glycemic index.

The main thing is to cut your carbs, or at least convert them to slower ingesting starches. Anything processed, stop eating. It can be very difficult to change our lifestyles, so patience is required! If you need some ideas to start, do a search for the glycemic index and take a look at that, or head to your library to look up some of the above books (or ask here of course). There will be a lot of confusing information, but keep trying until you find something that works.

Many of us (I gather from previous postings) have converted to the whole foods experience. Instead of eating white bread, try whole grain (sprouted breads are best as they cause the lowest insulin reaction). For white rice, switch to brown. The trick is to use starches as a complement to our meals, not the main entree. Most of the time now I do not have starches with my meals at all. Just more veggies (no root veggies - too starchy).

Good luck, Leslie
