Re: met/glucophage/insulin resistance help?From: anonymous@obgyn.netTue, 10 Apr 2001 21:08:20 EDT
hi, my name is tori and i just wanted to reply to your concern about not being over weight and not necessarily having pcos. what i understand is that even if you are not overweight, just like you may not have cysts on your ovaries either, you are typical of too much testosterone (acne and hirsutism) which somehow is the body's natural balancer of insulin. so you ARE insulin resistant because of the excess testosterone. my doc didn't check my blood work either and just sent me home with the rx for Glucophage, and thank goodness she did because it took me four docs and two years to actually get diagnosed. i'm sorry for sounding harsh, i didn't mean to. i just want to make sure that you do take this seriously. my RE told me i had two options in meds: 1-take the individual ones for hair growth and acne, which would be like shooting a missile or 2-take the metformin and that would be like letting a nuclear bomb off. please have faith in your treatment. you may just not be eating badly enough to trigger anything worse. in which case, you'll respond more quickly than someone like me. good luck and please write back.
