met/glucophage/insulin resistance help?From: natalie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 10 Apr 2001 19:03:29 -0500 (CDT)
Hi my name is natalie and im 19 years old with PCOS I am concerned because i have PCOS but am not obese but maybe could lose a little bit yet my endocrinologist prescribed me with Metformin regardless. she did not even look at my blood results and i feel like she is dismissing me into a general category by assuming that all PCOS have insulin resistance even if not overweight. i am also concerned that if i go on the met that my body will get use to the medicine and if i choose to come off my weight will become worse then it started out to be.can this happen? My main probs are hirsuitism and acne and so maybe my Endo should prescribe me Sprionolactone but they still disregarded my opinion on this too. i feel like my doctors are letting me down and i feel so frustrated. please help! are all PCOS insulin resistant? I get quite bad cravings for carbs but does that mean insulin resistance? is it identified through blood tests? Will Met help with my hirsuitism /acne i have heard it is not good for this? Is there any natural things u recommend for hirsuit/acne? do i have to increase dosage of met to 3x daily especially since im not obese? Have there been any negative feedback about met beside the nausea or bloating? Sorry for loads of questions but i feel frustrated because my doctors in the uk are really unhelpful and unsympathetic. I would appreciate your any comments or answers.Thanx.
