Re: atkins vitaminsFrom: Leslie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 13 Mar 2001 09:04:59 -0800
Kathy, I don't know the details, but Glutamine is an amino acid that is supposed to help the brain curb our carb cravings. It has nothing to do with controlling IR, which is what glucophage does. Glutamine is something that is often used to help alcoholics curb their appetite for alcohol (big time carbs). This is something that you can experiment with, but it takes about 20 minutes to kick in, so find something to distract yourself with for that period. The amount needed varies with the individual, so you would have to experiment with yourself to see what works for you. Most health food stores carry this item for a fairly reasonable price, so check around. Also, although I do not do the Atkins diet, the first week (or in my case two) is the hardest to deal with when cutting carbs from the diet. Our body has grown so accustomed to the high sugar levels, that dropping it takes some adjusting. Hang in there! You will get through this. Leslie
