How do you find the right diet?

Hello all. I had a call today from my doctor informing me that i had PCOS. We had discussed it at my last visit and I knew there was definite possibility that i had it, but now that i REALLY have it, well..im not sure what to do. I picked up my prescription and will start to take it tonight. it is metformin. A low carb diet. There are so many out there. What are your suggestions for finding the right one? Or is there no "right" one? My main problem is the weight i have gained. I am 220 pounds, 5'7. The weight i should be, so the military says, is 170. I would, of course, love to be this weight, if not smaller. Any suggestions? I am thinking of trying to see a nutritionist...but appoinments take about a month to get...im looking for something to start now. I like diets which tell me exactly what to eat and when. Im good at following schedules. Im not looking to PAY for one. <ugh> Not much cash on this end of the line. Thanks in advance.
