Re: Herbal treatments?From: Leslie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 28 Feb 2001 21:39:55 -0800
Hi Tess, Herbal treatments do work, but one needs to figure out what they need to treat before taking on a whole bunch of herbs. How much of what herb will very greatly from one individual with PCOS to another. Not everyone has the same symptoms to be treated either, so I would suggest that you base any treatment you approach on either tests done by your doc (good starting point) or connect with an herbalist or naturopathic physician. Also, herbs take a lot more time to effect the body compared to drugs, so you must be prepared to wait several months to see results, depending upon your condition. That having been said, both vitex and saw palmetto can be used, and would probably be a good place to start. Also, do you follow a low carb diet? That (you probably already know) is a great place to start, and can truly help regulate symptoms. Progesterone is probably still a good idea, but, if you can, try to make sure it is from a chemically bio-identical source as what we use, not one that has been trademarked. These ones can cause uncomfortable side effects, including depression, heavy periods, and headaches (in my experience). If you want to discuss this further, contact me. Leslie lekili@pacbell.net
