Falling off the wagon

Hi Ria,

I tend to fall off the wagon a lot, as far as diet is concerned. I try to do the whole foods thing and stay close to the low glycemic index, as I find that tends to give me a fair amount of flexibility without much carb cravings (I also hate to feel regulated, and know I don't do well long term with anything I have to count!). I think slipping up is sort of normal. Things get more difficult when I encounter stress, so I am trying to identify when I crave the not allowed things. I also try to have something that feels naughty (sugar free pudding or some such) on hand for those times that I know I'm going to break.

I sometimes have difficulty with the water thing, but I try to get myself to drink enough of it by adding lemon juice to a large jug and not going to bed until I have finished it (Start in the morning). I'll drink herbal tea too, just to get some of the liquid in!

Try to take this one moment at a time, and don't beat up on yourself if you slip up! It is a lifestyle thing, and will take time to relearn old patterns. You are not alone in the weight battle, even if it may sometimes feel like you might be. Also, please remember that your body is Yours, not your husband's, or your friend's, and it is important to keep that in mind, especially if your partner has the good fortune not to have physical difficulties with his. So many of us forget to honor ourselves for who we are, both mentally and physically.

I don't know if I've said anything useful here, but I do wish you the best for yourself!

Leslie
