My 3 Month Check Up - Good NewsFrom: Jo-Nita (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 12 Feb 2001 13:21:06 -0600 (CST)
I was daignosed with PCOS and Insulin Resistance on 11/10/00.Just wanted to let everyone know that at My check up with my RE Friday, I found out that by low carbing, I've dropped my fasting insulin level from 34 in October to 16 now. I've lost 45 pounds with about 30 more to go. Since I'm not trying to conceive( I'm 44 with an adopted son) we decided to try Spiro for the hair problem and see how effective a low carb diet could be in reducing my insulin level. My RE now wants to try it for another 3 months to see if I can get the level down below a 10. If not, I'll probable start on Glucophage at that time. I cut my carb intake drastically - 50 gr or less a day. This is not for everyone, but if you are IR and can't get a doctor to prescribe Glucophage, it might be worth a try. I know lots of women who restrict carbs to 200 gr and are having great results. I won't take up time and space with my history and diet plan, but I'll be happy to e-mail info to anyone who would like to know more. Take control of your health. Best Wishes to all.
