pcos&high cholesterol-what do I eat/what do I do if I have this?From: Jill (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 30 Jan 2001 16:07:38 -0600 (CST)
I was diagnosed with pcos a few years ago. I came to college and started ballooning up, getting stretch marks like I was pregnant, and growing out of my clothes. I was told I have pcos by my general practitioner. She told me I had it and that was about it, so I've been living with it and all my extra weight for about 3 years, not really knowing what to do. I've asked my doctor if I should be doing anything specific for pcos, and she says no, but I can't help but feel like a fat failure at this point, and there has to be something that I'm supposed to be doing. I recently found out that I also have very high cholesterol-from this same doctor. I was given info about what to eat that contained a list of fruits, veggies and bread, since those things are low fat/cholesterol. BUT-the more I try to read about pcos, those things don't seem like they are the right things to eat due to carb content. Unfortunately I do eat a lot of carbs, not because I crave them, but because they are all I really like to eat. I've never been a meat eater, even when I was a kid I said no to hamburgers and yes to grilled cheese. I guess I'm not really sure what to do. I'm not happy and I"m confused. ANY info would be help to me-about needing a doctor, about food, whatever. I'm 23 years old, and I want to live happy and healthy and SMALLER if possible. I'm going to be married soon, and I"m hoping that will be the kick in the pants that I need to get motivated to do whatever I have to do-but I'm scared about this food thing. Thanks-Jill
