Oh Kathi, You are NOT alone here!

You also need to know that BC pills do not help with PCOS. Typical of western medicine, they treat the symptom, not the problem. They can help regulate the cycle for a while, but they do not help heal the problem. If the problem is not dealt with, it will get worse. You probably already know that, since you want more than BC pills.

Get your doctor to give you an insulin test. This is different from a blood glucose test. I don't know how much you know of PCOS (probably a fair amount if you have been diagnosed for 5 years), but don't settle for less. You need to know if your insulin balance is off. This could be causing your periods to disappear. If this is the case, you should be able to treat yourself with diets or supplements. Note that you don't have to be overweight to have this difficulty, but it is a very common side effect of PCOS.

I am assuming your physician did some hormonal blood tests to check your estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone levels? And your cholesterol levels?

There are medications available for people with PCOS besides birth control, if you wish to go that direction. Many drs prefer not to prescribe them, as they don't know that much about PCOS. They would be the ones offered to diabetic patients. You may also wish to consider finding an endocrinologist to work with (preferably a reproductive specialist as they are more likely to know the latest about PCOS). Personally, I don't tend to do well with the meds, so I have gone down the more natural path. I am presently working with both a naturopath, and a reproductive specialist.

There is also a wonderful book out titled "Taking Charge of your Fertility" written by Tony W....(can't think what the last name is at the moment). It can help you figure out what is going on with your cycles, but you must be patient with her technique. It might take you a while to figure out what your body is trying to tell you.

Hope this helps somewhat Kathi. Feel free to write me back.

Leslie
