Recommended booksFrom: Kelly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 10 Jan 2001 22:35:02 -0000
Hi everyone!! I hope you are all well and still hanging in their with determination. I have bought so many books and done so much research that I would like to share some of the books that I would personally recommend that you read and try and save you some money from the not so suitable ones. Please bear in mind that this is only my personal opinion and others may say different as we all do things differently. First of all their are two books that have come out on PCOS which are:- " A woman's guide to dealing with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome" By Colette Harris with Dr Adam Carey ( This is an excellent buy giving you more in depth information on syndrome such as diet, cosmetic concerns, both natural and GP treatments, I highly recommend this if you already do not have this) "Living with P.C.O.S. By Angela Boss,Evelina Weidman Sterling and Richard S. Legro" ( This again is 2nd best buy, it has a well written chapter on diets and goes into all the different low carb diets, explaining what each one intails) "Womens Hormones"by Geoffrey Remond There is a third book but this covers more of a broad area like P.C.O.S., menopause, water retention, PMT, hormone inbalace etc Excellent buy if you want to look at other areas. "How I gave up my low fat diet and lost forty pounds" by Dana Carpender (This book is for someone who wants to read somebody's general experience on low carb, I enjoyed reading this on a genral basis to see how she lost forty pounds this also might help you to choose what diet to go on.) Diet Books!!! "Atkins Diet" By Dr Atkin "The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet" by Dr R. F. Heller "Protien Power" by M.Eades These are all high protiein and very low carb diets. If you are a fan of eating eggs, fish and meat all the time then you may like this. Personally I like to eat less meat as possible, not my idea of eggs and bacon every morning. "Sugar Busters" by Dr Sam Andrews This diet is o.k it concentrates more on cutting all sugars out completely with an average intake of protein. "Eat yourself Slim"by Michel Montignac To be honest I have not read this in great detail but from the glimpse this is more of a nutritional based, it averages out the carb and the protein. Quite a sensible diet. "Syndrome X" by Jack Challem etc This is a high protein diet combined with eating all the right fats. It's concentration is more on fats. Out of all the books I have bought the one's that appeal to me are:- "Enter the Zone" by Barry Sears A 40% carb and 30%protein and 30%fat I feel it averages out the nutrients we need in order to loose weight steadily. Looks sensible and not taking too much of one thing. "The 30 day Fat Burner Diet" by Patrick Holford written by a british nutrition this diet is sensible combining all the low carbs with some protien, easy to follow and explains well how the body burns up fat. I found it good because it does not require you to eat meat all the time. "The Glucose Revolution"by Jean carper This is an excellant buy and I think all people with PCOS should have did. More than the diet I use it for all the low Glycaemin Index foods that I can eat. As from this week is the first time that I have gone on a low carb diet the way I am doing it is by combining the three books as listed above. I have sat down and typed Breakfast, Lunch, dinner, snack and dessert choices. I hope this will work for me and I will keep you all posted. Oh yes before I go if you want a book on motivation, willpower faith and dertermination then this is an excellant buy with out doubt "You can if you think you can" by Norman Vincent Peale Can you tell I love reading a lot. Anyway keep the fight up.
