I was diagnosed with PCOS a year ago, and found it quite a struggle at first. All the symptoms started to surface after I went off the pill. I slowing started to get acne, and as time progressed it became worse and worse. As well, I didn't get my period. I went to the doctors and felt that I wasn't really being taken seriously, when I expressed concern that the acne and the lack of period might be linked. Not knowing of PCOS, I couldn't offer any assistance linking the two, other than the fact that this all began when I went off the Pill a hormonal drug.

After numerous acne medications that didn't work, doctors visits, and the fact that I, after a year had still not gotten a period, the doctor finally decided it was time to have a blood hormone test done. Low and behold, my hormone levels were not normal. The next step was the ultrasound, and by the tech's manner I knew something was up. When I went to visit the doctor to go over the results she broke the bad news that I had PCOS.

Now, not having any idea what PCOS was I wasn't devastated until I started to do some research...now here is where I get to the reason for this note...I read two really good books, one was BALANCING HORMONES NATURALLY, and the other was ANDROGEN DISORDERS. The later book helped me to understand how when hormones are unbalanced it can really screw you up, and the first book help me to understand what I may be lacking in my diet that could be causing this hormonal imbalance.

For me it was a lack of Calcium and Zinc, and the lack of a healthly diet. I always thought that I ate well. But the more I read I realized that I didn't eat enough vegatables and fruit, and that many of the foods I ate were fast and easy and processed. After a month of adding Calcium and Zinc to my diet, and eating better, I began to see real results. My skin began to clear up, I didn't get any more breakouts, and my period returned.

I know I am one of the fortunate ones were diet really made a difference, but I'd like to point out that I think that the Calcium was the biggest contributor to my present good health. I'd also like to mention that I am pregnant(conceived the all natural way), and expecting my first child in March. So for those of you out there struggling with this syndrome, there is hope. Truly believe it!

And don't give up trying to understand what may be contributing to your individual situation, because this syndrome is the result of a hormonal imbalance, and what is causing that imbalance is very different for each person. Finding the cause is going to lead to your cure. Truly, we know ourselves better than anyone else, and who better to identify the contributor of the syndrome than we as individuals?
