Laura,

I tried the low carb diet also without much success. I have been taking BCPs for years, but recently began taking glucophage as prescribed by my doctor. In addition to the medication, she suggested that I follow the same meal plan that she prescribes for diabetics, even though I am not diabetic. It is based on the following:

1200 calories per day consisting of: 9 servings of carbohydrates (6 servings starch, 2 servings fruit, 1 cup skim milk) 3 servings of vegetables 5 ounces of protein (need not be meat if you prefer to abstain from meat) 2 servings of fat

The booklet she gave me has a pretty extensive listing for each of these categories suggesting different food items that would be the best choices. It is a very satisfying plan and has been surprisingly effective for me so far. I have been doing it for about a month and have lost approximately 7 pounds.

I also found some really incredible recipe books that fall right in line with this way of eating. If you think you would like to know more about it, I would be happy to share all I know. Feel free to email me: GoodGMissM@aol.com

Molly
