New Book on PCOS hits the stores: "Living with PCOS" by Angela Boss and Evelina Sterling with Rick Legro

"Many women are too embarrassed to mention the cosmetic symptoms to their physicians, and many health care professionals do not understand PCOS well enough to make a diagnosis," said Angela Boss, co-author of Living with PCOS (Addicus Books 2000).

Ms. Boss and her co-author, Evelina Weidman Sterling, both have PCOS; they hope to help women become aware of the syndrome. "A huge void exists when it comes to information about PCOS. I recall the relief I felt when I finally could put a name on my condition," said Ms. Boss. "At least then I knew what I was dealing with."

The author's medical editor, Richard S. Legro, M.D., is a nationally-recognized authority on PCOS. "If a woman suspects she has PCOS, she should educate herself about the condition, and then find a doctor who is knowledgeable about it. Several medical tests are required to make an accurate diagnosis and establish the severity of the disorder." PCOS is incurable, and if left untreated, can increase the long-term health risks for heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. However, with proper treatment, the symptoms can be managed.
