Hi Lisa,

The armour thyroid is a natural thyroid medication that most doctors WILL NOT prescribe because they get paid more to prescribe the synthetic drugs. I would suggest switching to armour thyroid they have found nothing wrong with it at this point and it has been used for years. I take 4 grains which equals 240 mg/day. This is a drug that if you start taking it you must continue it for the rest of your life, even during pregnancy.

The phentermine is an amphetamine. It is used to raise your metabolism, and as an appetite suppresant. You need a prescription for this. I was taking 30 mg/day. Some people only need 17.5 mg/day. I had never felt awake, or active until I began taking this medication.

The L-tyrosine is an aminoacid. I don't remember exactly what it is supposed to do. I always felt happy after taking it, and without it I would cry for hours on end. You can get this in the natural foods section of almost any store. It runs $10/bottle for 50, 5000 mg. capsules of which you should take 3 a day.

I'm not quite sure what the 5-HTP is. It may also be another amino acid. What that does is it acts as an antidepressant, appetite suppresant, and helps you sleep at night.

My doctor also had me on a multivitamin because I was on the low carb diet.

My schedule has been: Breakfast: 180 mg armour thyroid 500 mg L-tyrosine

Lunch: 180 mg armour thyroid 500 mg L-tyrosine Kolace (for nice B.M.'s)

Dinner: 500 mg L-tyrosine Multivitamin

Bedtime: 2 capsuls of 5-HTP

I hope this helps. Just to let you know. Doctors are very reluctant to help women with thyroid and weight problems. They still recommend the food pyramid, and lots of exercise. I recommend high protein diet, the above medications, lots of exercise, and good nights rest.

Good Luck.
