I know EXACTLY what you mean. I have a friend who raises pigs and chickens on her five acres along with having horses, dogs, cats etc. So I get my pork and some chicken from her and oh what a wonderful, tasty, mouthwatering difference from what passes as pork and chicken in the stores. Getting the pork & chicken from my friend, I know what's been put into the animal and that it had a happy & healthy life before it was butchered. Not only that but since we slaughter the chickens ourselves (I go out and help them) I know that they were killed quickly and with a minimum of fuss and trauma. Plus I get a half a pig for under $200, since my friend only charges enough to make what she spent keeping them and of course the cut and wrap charge from the place that slaughters the pigs for her. There's no way, I could go into a grocery store and get the very high quality pork I get from my friend for a little over $2 a pound. But the best thing of all is eating this wonderful meat.
