Kat,
Yes, the facial hair and weight can show up later. When I was first
diagnosed with PCOS, I weighed 145 and had no facial hair. My only
symptoms were cysts on my ovaries and irregular periods. I was trying
to have a baby at the time, so I was treated with provera and clomid and
it worked. That was 14 years ago. I really didn't notice any facial
hair until about 5 or 6 years ago, and it didn't become a big problem
until about 2 years ago. Same with my weight. I have always had to
watch my weight, but I would stay between 145 - 160. About 2 years ago,
my weight jumped up to 229! I have lost some of it, but it has been very
difficult.
I also stopped having period altogether unless I take provera. I am now
taking Actos. I tried Metformin for over 1 year - even up to the max.
dose of 2550 mg/ day, but it didn't work for me. I lost no weight while
using it, and my periods did not come back. I am hoping that the Actos
will work.
Hope this helps! Didn't mean to write a book!
Grace & peace,
Kathy
