PCOS and weightFrom: Kat (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 17 Nov 2000 20:51:17 -0600 (CST)
I was diagnosed with PCOS while undergoing several years of infertility. My Doctor said I didn't fit the typical characteristics of a PCOS person. I am not overweight and do not have facial hair. He diagnosed me based on all the ultra sounds I had to have doing infertility treatment and my abnormal periods from age 12 until now. Heavy, long bleeding when I was younger (always anemic and even had to get a blood transfusion)I had to take provera or birth control pills(the BC did cause facial hair when I had to take it)I often would go a few months without having a period and then would suffer weeks and weeks of hemoraging. Now, I have to take provera to get a period. Crazy. I finally was able to conceive through invitro and have twin four year old daughters. My doctor told me that women with PCOS often are very successful with invitro. My question is ...can ultra sounds and menstration history really confirm PCOS? I participated in a PCOS study and they did a bunch of blood test. They gave me the results, but no explanation. Testosterone is 14ng/dl.,free testosterone is 2ng/dl,fasting glucose is 79mg/dl. All I was told is that at this time I did not qualify for the PCOS study. Also, can the weight gain and facial hair come later? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kat
