Re: zone dietFrom: Jen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 8 Nov 2000 14:44:25 -0600 (CST)
Beckie... The Zone diet is a diet which lowers your intake of carbohydrates while raising your intake of protein and fat..it is a great diet, but sometimes hard to follow..the concept is to have your daily diet consist of 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein and 30% protein..the "normal" diet today seems to consist of about 80% carbohydrates which in pcos women may cause weight gain.. I was diagnosed with PCOS in my early 20s after i had a cyst removed from my ovary, but i have had it at least since i was a teenager..when i played competitive sports all year round in high school and college, the high carbohydrate diet wasn't really too bad, but once i slowed down my activity, and still ate the same diet, the pounds began to gather!! However, I have never felt better since i started minimizing my intake of carbohydrates..you might want to check out the book "The Zone Diet"..can't remember the author, but i read it and it really helps understand why we don't need all that pasta, bread and the like..GOOD LUCK!!
