Kim, I am not currently doing the low carb thing, when I was whole grains worked great instead of potatoes, bread, white rice etc, as a side dish is what I mean. Fruits are great for dessert. I was very succesful with the low carb diet doing it that way, then I suffered a setback. I thought it was a very sensible healthy way to eat. As far as the amount goes I think whatever grain you have,a cup is what you are supposed to have per meal,and the fruit I think if you`ve eaten your salad first,then your meal you probobly woulden`t over do it on the fruit.
