Syndrome X Diet?From: Cindi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 8 Oct 2000 09:40:40 -0500 (CDT)
Hello Everybody I just discovered this board this morning. I can't believe it has been around since July, and all I had ever noticed was the main PCOS board and the PCOS Medication Forum. I have gone back and scanned the posts from the last few months, and though I haven't read every one yet, I haven't seen a single one specifically about the Syndrome X diet. Has anyone here tried it? I have the book by Gerald Reaven on order, and am eagerly awaiting it. From what I have seen in the information available, his recommended diet, limits both Proteins and Carbs to some extent(but not severely) and has you increase your amounts of "good" fats. Thinks like Safflower Oil, avocados, walnuts, and olive oil. It makes more sense at least to me, for long term health, than they Atkins type plan, and easier to do than the Low Fat Ornish type plan. This Dr has been an endocrinologist for 40 some years and is actually the one who came up with the term "Syndrome X" to identify Insulin Resistance. I am hoping this will finally be the answer for me, as I need to lose 150#, and am now diabetic as well. I have gained 30# since switching from Rezulin to Avandia in combination with my GLucophage. Thanks for any feedback. Cindi
