The Adtkins diet is an extreme diet -- even in his book he mentions that there may be a problem with liver function for some people. I don't know about the metformin, but I assume that since it works against the insulin resistance, it is doing the same thing. You may want to try a different diet -- I have seen a lot of people liking the Carbohydrate Addicts diets -- something that is not as extreme as the Adtkins diet.
