weightloss, low-carb success

Hi there, I have not really posted as much on this list as the general PCOS forum, but I thought I would say that I have had success on a low carb diet. I have lost about 29lbs since January. I started out on a very restricted very low carb diet. Mostly it was modeled after Atkins. Then when that got too difficult, I switched to CAD. I didn't find it to be very good for me because the reward meal gave me a lot of cravings. So I ended up designing my own plan. What I have basically done is eliminated pasta, bread, sugar, potatoes, and other types of simple carbs and junk food from my diet. However I still eat plenty of veggies and when I get a craving for something with carbs, I eat fruit, usuallly raspberries or strawberries because they are so low in carbs. I didn't eat any cereal either, but this week I added the old-fashioned oatmeal for breakfast twice a week. I am only 8-10lbs from my goal, so right now is where I am introducing some carbs to see how it affects me, and what I will need to do to maintain my loss. I have exercised on and off during the plan, but to be honest it was mainly diet. Although for the past month I have a new job waiting tables, so I have been more physically active and that may be helping. I have cheated plenty of times, and fallen off the wagon for a week at a time, like on vacation. But I am slowly feeling that this is a way of life. I don't really feel tempted the way I used to, except for an occasional special dessert. People disagree about the effects of lowcarb dieting. I think it is smart to check with a doctor, and if you have kidney or liver problems it is a must. But I have been very successful so far. The key is to find something that works and adapt it to your life, so you can stick with it. Good luck. Feel free to respond to this board or email me if you have any questions. As for my PCOS, I have been taking glucophage the whole time I was dieting. I started with 2000mg/day and now have cut down to 1000/day (under doctor's supervision) and about three months ago I started taking spironolactone for hair growth. Started at 50mg/day and currently up to 150mg/day. I think I will stick with that amount because it seems to be working.
