Hi Mary Anne,

I have 2 girls, 14 & 16. My 16 yr. old has pretty severe PCOS which started before her first period. We didn't realize that she had precocious puberty & I feel terrible that I didn't recognize the symptoms in her that I already had. 9th grade is when hers really kicked in. She gained 50+ lbs. in about a year, started losing her hair & got acne on her back. When she was 12 or 13 I noticed that she started a little mustache & that is when I should have clued in. She is doing better now, thanks to low carb eating & will soon be starting medication for her IR. My 14 yr. old has a little mustache, has breakouts in the target area, but is pretty thin. She is also low carbing to try & ward off as many problems as she can. I would suggest that you examine your daughter's diet very carefully, particulary if she eats at school. I didn't realize that my girls were eating almost nothing but french fries for lunch! School lunches are generally pretty heavy in the carbs. There are probably changes that can be made to lessen any future effects from this blasted condition. Hope this helps.
