I saw my doctor yesterday, and he told me that anytime a women is prescribed Metformin, they check the liver just as a precaution. He says because of the problems some people had on Rezulin (pulled of the US market, because some patients experienced liver problems), they are taking the "better safe than sorry" approach with Metformin. I hope this helps a little.
