Diet Questions....From: Mary (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 28 Jul 2000 09:29:34 -0500 (CDT)
Well, got back around noon yesterday from taking my glucose tolerance with insulin levels test and boy, did I feel horrible! Anyway, GYN confirmed that I have PCOS on Weds. So now I wait for the other test to come back. In the meantime, I need some answers to some questions...if anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it since I am doing this for my sister (she also has IR) as well as me.... 1. When you start to modify your diet, do you watch the fat and calories as well as the carbs? 2. I would like to keep a record of what my carb/calorie intake is for a week and then start by cutting back a little at a time...has anyone else done a diet this way...if so how has it worked for you? 3. When looking at foods and the carb count on the container, what do you look for? (I had been eating oatmeal for breakfast but it has 27g of carbs! And when you look at a carb count for a 2000 calorie diet, it says 300g a day...see my confusion!) 4. Are there foods that are higher in carbs that are better for you then others? 5. For those of you who have girls that have PCOS...at what age should I really start watching my girls for symptoms? (My 13 yr. old just started her period last yr.) What do symptoms do you watch for? (I am one that really doesn't have any outward symptoms of PCOS other than weight) 6. On this diet forum, is there anyway to access previos months messages? I am especially looking for breakfast food ideas. I know that this is a lot of questions....so THANK YOU for taking the time to answer them.
