Progestogens (progesterone, provera, norlutate, ...) do not reduce the risk of breast cancer. This idea was suggested in the 70's but studies have not been conclusive. >2. Is replacement of progesterone in a woman without a uterus necessary for other reasons, physiologically.
The only argument that holds any water in my mind is for the woman who had a hysterectomy for endometriosis. Unopposed estrogen has the "potential" to cause endometrial cancer in any unresected areas. On the other, I do not routinely use progestogens in those patients and have never seen endometrial type of CA in them after hysterectomy.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
