Roger- This sounds like an internal issue that could be rectified by a policy change with input from the NICU team, labor nurses, and ob/gyn physicians. At our hospital we would put a hat on the baby, wrap him or her in a blanket, and give the baby to the mother, father, and other family members to hold until the baby died. Taking a nonviable baby to the NICU seems unkind to the parents and a waste of valuabe health care resources. Best wishes, Ashley

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
