I suggest the ACOG Educational Bulletin (August, 1998) on Ovarian Cancer. I helped write it so this is not a completely unbiased opinion. There is no recommended interval and there are still no data to support one interval over another. If there is a clear familial cancer syndrome, I offer genetic testing and/or prophylactic oophorectomy. If this is an isolated sporadic case, the sisters have about a risk double the baseline (one in 35 as opposed to 1 in 70). In these cases, I usually place the women on OCP's and offer screening with exam, TVS and CA125 every 9 months (no data for or against). If a benign-looking cyst pops up on U/S, though, it is always a tricky situation to deal with.

Hope this helps,

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
