In my hospital (Buenos Aires University) we've been using Nimodipine (a Ca channel blocker) for a while in hypertension in pregnancy. We didn't find any feto/maternal problem. We are not using it any more because of the lack of adequate anihypertensive effect. We are using now amlodipine (another Ca channel blocker) with better response. We presented the results in- “ANTIHYPERTENSIVE TREATMENT WITH AMLODIPINE DURING PREGNANCY”. Acta Physiologica Pharmacologica et Therapeutica Latinoamericana. Agosto 1996, Pag 148. - "AMLODIPINE IN THE TREATMENT OF HYPERTENSION IN PREGNANCY" Nephrology Vol 3 Suppl 1 S395, 1997. We don't like nifedipine for the great and sudden hypotensive effect. With nimdipine or amlodipine you need 24 or 48 hs to achieve its maximum action.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
