I'm sure you have already looked it up in the PDR, it is classified as a category X for pregnancy. No abnormalities were noted in female offspring in rats, but males were effected with a high rate of development of hypospadias (3.6-100%). The critical period in rats was day 16-17 of gestation. It caused changes similar to Type II 5a reductase defeciency. Studies on rabbits did not show similar developmental changes, but high doses in rhesus monkeys did result in external genital abnormalities (100 times the recommended human dose). I would doubt that these risks would be an acceptable reason for termination for most patients.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
