Re: doxycicline usage in pregnancyFrom: DoctorJoe@aol.comWed Aug 25 13:13:23 1999

She was used doxycicline 1 capsule each day between 22nd and 44 th postmenstrual days. The family is very anixous for the potential teratogenic effects of the drug. They want advice about termination or continuation of pregnancy. Any comment? Thanks in advance. >> I think out of all the "usual" tetracyclines, doxycycline is one of the least likely to cross the placenta and hasn't been yet demonstrated to cause fetopathy, to my understanding. Also, one capsule daily is half the usual dose, so blood levels would be relatively low. Joe P.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
