Dear Malcolm, I think you are not very familiar with e-mail jargon. At the end of the sentence ending with "... because of persecution in the U.K. " There were ;8-) signs meaning an eyeglasses wearing, blinking and smiling man. >Personal experience and acquaintance are rather different from
>assumptions and lack of experience.

There is law and order in Turkey. And millions of Kurdish speaking fellow countrimen live peacefully in Turkey. Like The Welch, The Scottish, The Irish, The India origined live in the U.K., The Bretons, The Corsicans in France, The Basques in Spain and many multi nationals in the melting pot the U.S..

I do not believe that any doctor or any other fellow citizen is driven. But those who are wanted by the law because of their involvement in terrorism may have escaped. But I believe the Interpol will eventually catch such terrorists. And also there is a proposal of amnesty which is being discussed in the Turkish National Assembly for the seduced youth, who have not been personally involved in crimes, to surrender to the law. Turkey is also one of the first countries who has accepted its citizens' personal right to appeal to the International Court of Human Rights. Your decent friends may seek justice and compensation if they are right.

>Perhaps you know of many Irish refugees who (having been guilty of no
>crime) have been driven from their homes by the British authorities and
>have subsequently sought political asylum in Turkey.

I also personally do not know many Americans escaping to Mexico. But there are many Mexicans seeking green Card. I am a gynecologist for 9 years, and I had not been accepted to any residency program in Gynecology in the US 13 and again 12 years ago. Me too I have personally applied for the DVD 2000 (green Card lottery) program. But If you have any position to offer me and my ophthalmologist spouse in London I would consider it positively since the UK is nearer to Turkey than the US though wages are not so good. ;8-) Bulent Potur M.D. http://abone.superonline.com/~bpotur

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
